This is the project we get asked about most. Big, bold, overlapping shapes in rainbow colours — and you really do not need to be able to draw.
You’ll need
- 5 sample pots of paint (we used red, cobalt, grass green, sunflower yellow and bubblegum pink)
- Low-tack painter’s tape
- A pencil and a long piece of string (for curves)
- Small rollers and an angled brush
Steps
- Sketch big. Draw 4–6 large shapes that overlap and run off the edges of the wall. Use the string as a compass for arcs.
- Tape the straight edges. Press the tape down firmly with a card so paint can’t creep under.
- Paint lightest to darkest. Yellow and pink first, then green, blue and red on top.
- Peel while wet. Pull the tape off at a 45° angle while the last coat is still slightly tacky for crisp lines.
- Touch up. Use the angled brush to tidy any curves.
Time & cost
About 6 hours across a weekend. Around £35 in sample pots and tape.
