If one print is nice, seventy-three is a personality. This living room makeover is all about one wall that does all the talking.

Before

A blue sofa in front of a big blank wall. Art in boxes under the bed for three years.

The big moves

  • Lay it out on the floor first. We arranged every frame on the rug, photographed it, then traced each frame onto kraft paper and taped the templates to the wall.
  • Mix it all. Portraits, posters, postcards, kids’ drawings, embroidered hoops and a neon sign. Frames in gold, black, pink and wood.
  • Go to the ceiling. The magic happens when the wall disappears. Keep the gaps tight (3–5 cm) and consistent.
  • Plants as punctuation. Big leafy plants at both ends soften the edges and stop it feeling like a museum.

Renter tip

Use picture-hanging strips for anything under 2 kg and slim panel pins for the rest — tiny holes, easy filler.
